Classic Stripes

I will never get tired of a classic stripe; it's really my go to print whether in a dress, t-shirt, or jacket. I believe you can never have to may stripes in your wardrobe. My most recent stripe purchase was this dress from Zara, with its classic shape and interesting neckline I knew it would quickly become a staple in my closet. For a casual summer look I plan on paring it with a neon belt and nude sandals.

Have a Happy Monday!

Favorite Things Friday

Happy Friday! I am thrilled to be showcasing my husband's work today on A&L. He is a gifted woodworker, outdoorsmen, handyman, and explorer! He truly does create beautiful things. This past Christmas, my husband (founder of Prestonmade), surprised me with a marquee letter. I had been eyeing one from a home interiors store for quite some time and awakened Christmas morning to see it lit up in our study. It is a perfect rustic and industrial addition to any space.

Pulled Pork {Food}

One of my new favorite things to make is pulled pork. Prepared the night before, this dish can be thrown into the slow cooker in the morning before work and will be flavorful and moist by the time you enjoy it in the evening. It has become a go-to recipe for me. What I love the most is that the rub can be created using every day spices from your spice drawer. I like to pair it with homemade fries and a fresh bun, or with rice and grilled vegetables. Salt Lick is one of my favorite specialty sauces to enjoy with it (most likely available at a higher end grocery store).

: : Ingredients : :
4-5 pounds of pork shoulder (I prefer boneless), black pepper, chili powder, ground cumin, brown sugar, dried oregano, paprika, salt, cracked red pepper, rosemary.

: : Recipe : :
At your local grocery store, purchase a 4-5 pound pork shoulder roast (I prefer boneless).

The night before you want to enjoy this yummy pulled pork, mix the following spices in a bowl: 1 tablespoon black pepper, 1-2 tablespoons chili powder, 2 tablespoons ground cumin, 2 tablespoons brown sugar, 1 tablespoon dried oregano, 3 tablespoons paprika, and 1 tablespoon salt.

Once those spices are mixed, add some cracked red pepper (to taste) and a dash of rosemary. The cracked red pepper will add a touch of spice and the rosemary will add a savory element.

Rub the spice mixture all over the roast.

Once the roast has been completely coated, carefully transfer the roast onto a piece of wax paper. Pour any remaining spice rub onto the roast. Wrap the roast up using wax paper. To seal the roast, use a piece of tinfoil. Place the roast in the refrigerator over night. The spice rub will seep into the roast and will provide a deeper flavor come the next day.

In the morning, remove the wax paper and tinfoil and place the spiced roast into your slow cooker. Cook on low for 10-12 hours (or whenever you will be home from work).

After 10 hours or so, remove the roast from the slower cooker. The roast will separate easily. I make sure to remove any excess fat. As I shred the meat, I add it back into the slower cooker pot to soak up all the extra juices. When the entire roast has been shredded (it should only take you 10 minutes or so), switch the slow cooker to warm and allow it to sit until you are ready to eat.

Enjoy!

Spring Sandals

After just a few nice days of weather here in Seattle, I finally broke out my open toe sandals! Spring has officially sprung and what better way to celebrate then with a pair of new shoes? I especially like #5, I think it's a great transitional shoe for spring. I have also been eyeing #7 for quite some time and have yet to pull the trigger for some odd reason... they are so adorable.

Have a wonderful Wednesday and thanks for reading,

Denim on Denim

Happy Tuesday everyone! Today I am showcasing my chambray, which I practically live in (I would wear it daily if I could). It is a basic that can be worn with any type of pattern or color; its versatility is what makes me reach for it so often. I only recently started wearing my chambray with jeans. I love to break up the denim on denim with a fun belt and add some dimension with a great handbag, statement necklace, and pumps.

Cherry Blossoms

Happy Monday my friends! I hope you were able to enjoy the nice spring weather this weekend. B and I were lucky enough to catch a glimpse of the beautiful cherry blossom trees at the University of Washington's campus on Sunday. I matched the blossoms with my pink topper jacket- a favorite of mine when the weather starts warming up. I have typically reserved this jacket to wear over dresses on special occasions but the color, shape, and ease of the jacket make it easy to pair with a more casual weekend look.

Favorite Things Friday

I'm beyond excited to share with you one of my favorite brands, Norwex. If you have never heard of Norwex you can learn more about the company and their wide range of products here. I want to specifically zero in on one of my favorites- the Body Clothes.

I specifically use the body clothes to wash my face each night. The secret is I wash my face with ONLY the Norwex cloth and water! You heard me right I use no cleanser or toner to clean my skin. With a history of both sensitive and acne prone skin it was a difficult leap to stop using my trusty face wash- it took about 4 months for my aunt (who is also a Norwex consultant) to get me to use just the cloth and water. The secret behind the cloths is the gentle but exfoliating micro fiber and also the silver agent found in the product. Since I have used Norwex I can honestly say I don't "break out" anymore but only see a few small pimples now and then. I have also seen a drastic change in the evenness of my skin, its smoother, and I would now categorize it as "normal" rather than "combination." The Norwex body cloth is definitely my secret beauty product!

I hope this Favorite Things Friday product review sparks your interest to try something new with your beauty routine.
