Broiled Grapefruit with Agave {Food}

This past weekend we went to one of our favorite restaurants at The Galleria for brunch. I saw a broiled grapefruit on the menu and immediately my curiosity was sparked. My husband and I love grapefruit, both for breakfast and as a snack, so I knew I had to give it a try. When I first bit into my broiled grapefruit I was shocked at the sour and sweet mixture, and the richness that the broiling provided. I was left inspired to try this on my own at home, and we were not disappointed!

This would be a beautiful addition to any brunch, shower, or after work snack. It is quick and easy, and adds an immediate ounce of unexpected pleasure. The agave provides a healthier option than some other alternatives like brown sugar or honey. I hope you enjoy this as much as I do.

: : Ingredients : :
 Grapefruit (well chilled), Agave (we prefer organic)

: : Recipe : :
Begin by cutting each grapefruit in half crosswise using a serrated knife. If needed, cut a thin slice off of the bottom of each grapefruit so that it stands upright.

Using a serrated knife, loosen the grapefruit segments by slicing between fragments and then slicing around the entire circumference of the circle. Repeat on the second half of the grapefruit. Keep the segments in the grapefruit.

Next, swirl agave around the grapefruit halves, I used about 1 tablespoon per grapefruit half. You could also use brown sugar if you do not have agave on hand.

Transfer to a baking sheet and broil for approximately 5 minutes. When you start to see some of the edges get a burnt look to them you know it is done.

Let it cool for a minute or so and then serve immediately.

Banana Bread {Food}

:: Ingredients ::

:: Recipe ::

Cream: butter (room temp), sugar, eggs (also at room temp), bananas, and vanilla

Mix: flour, salt, and baking soda

Stir: dry ingredients into wet ingredients and add buttermilk

Bake 1 hour at 350 degrees than turn oven down to 250 degrees and bake for 20 more minutes.

Who doesn't like a good banana bread? I'm certainly a fan, I have always liked banana bread but it wasn't until this recipe that I really started to love it! The recipe comes from a family I nannied for in college, I remember one morning the mother saying she made banana bread and to help myself. I certainly helped myself and later found myself calling her long after I had gone home to get the recipe. The secret to this bread is the bake time, when you turn the oven down and let it bake for 20 extra minutes you are creating a glazed crust over the top- this pairs perfectly with the moist inside of the bread. Happy baking!

Floral

Last season I purchased this floral coat from Anthropologie. I fell in love with it in the store and love it more with each time I wear it. It is such a delight to find a piece like this for your wardrobe, one that you cannot wait to put on! Floral coats immediately brighten up any outfit and are a great addition to any closet.

Pop of Pink

Happy St. Patrick's Day everyone, don't forget to wear your pop of green today!

 I'd been eyeing this skirt at Anthropologie for a while before pulling the trigger. I'm so glad I did, it's extremely comfortable and has proven to be a great transitional piece in my wardrobe. The first look I'm showcasing with the skirt is a winter/early spring look. It's still chilly in Seattle meaning my tights have been lingering in the front of my drawer a little longer than I expected. With the days getting lighter and longer I'm excited to style this piece for summer... stay tuned.

Favorite Things Friday

One of my favorite designers, Tory Burch, recently launched her first eau de parfum. The other day I was getting lost in Nordstrom with my mom and completely fell in love with the scent. I got a sample and ever since can't get enough of it, which is saying something because I am very picky about perfumes. Tory Burch is a feminine scent with a touch of tomboy, balancing floral, citrus, and earthy tones. I am excited to make this my new signature scent!

Transition to Spring

 The weather has been absolutely beautiful here lately, high 40's and sunny. The heat wave was exactly what we needed as snow-ridden, frozen Minnesotans! This warm up sparked me to move some of my spring clothes to the front of my closet. There are five basics that I use to transition to spring weather: my jean jacket, a floral scarf, a colorful handbag, flats, and ankle pants. I use these transitionary basics to mix and match with some of my winter pieces, and will very soon start to add in some fun summer pieces as well. I am so thankful spring is here, even though there is still snow on the ground! What are some of your favorite spring pieces?

Out & About

My SJP "Bobbie" heels are quickly becoming a staple piece in my wardrobe. I have to attribute this to SJP herself as she is a strong believer that color should be  treated as a neutral- I could not agree more. I pair her beautifully designed heels with just about everything I own. I love the idea of wearing these beautiful soles with jeans, it really makes them pop and adds a hit of glam to what some may consider just an everyday look.

Have a great rest of your week! I cannot believe its already Wednesday.
