Beauty Basics Monthly {Beauty}

I recently started using a cream blush and I will never go back to powder. I love the way Make Up For Ever creates a dewy rosiness that just cannot be achieved with a powder. I use 210 - cool pink but cannot wait to try another color, maybe 410 - coral will be next.

Lancome defincils is by far the best mascara I have ever used! Although, it's a bit pricey its totally worth it. It never clumps and is easy to remove at the end of the day. Make sure to check out Nordstrom's mascara sale, buy 2 get 1 free! It's an incredible promotion and only happens twice a year. So mark your calendars the next sale happens the end of May{one day only}.

Yes, you read that right- Whole Foods is where I purchase my body lotion. I became obsessed with lavender after a trip to a lavender farm and wanted to incorporate the scent into my daily routine. I accidentally came across this lotion while browsing the healthcare section and was blown away by the price tag {around $6 if you can score it on sale}. I decided to give it a try and have been using it ever since. It's a light weight lotion and is perfect for everyday use. {Only sold in store- I promise it's worth a trip}

Neon Sneakers

I am so excited to be sharing my new favorite sneakers with you today! My girlfriend and I spotted them in the J.Crew catalog a couple weeks back, but then I saw them in person I knew they were going to be a new favorite. I have always wanted to buy a pair of fun sneakers from J.Crew, but there were never any that I loved...until these :) Neon is actually very versatile and what a fun way to jazz up these winter months! And the best part is, they are super comfortable! Have an awesome day everyone.

Legging Love

Happy Monday!

I'm excited to share with you the most incredible pair of leggings I've ever worn! My mother-in-law  gave them to me for Christmas and I cannot beleive it has taken me this long to share them. They are labeled as 'one size fits most' but are incredibly stretchy, light weight, and soft. They are truly the most comfortable things I have ever put on my body! I told my husband they are so comfortable its like I'm not even wearing pants! Seriously check them out, you won't be disappointed.

10 Home Essentials to Have on Hand

I absolutely love our little place (we live in the lower level of my sisters' duplex in Minneapolis). It was built in 1910 and is full of charm, complete with high ceilings, original woodwork, hardwood floors, and noisy pipes :) I have loved slowly decorating it and making it ours over the last  year and a half. We are close to the river and lakes, all our favorite neighborhoods, great shopping, and amazing restaurants. It is our home and there is something so special about where you do life together. P and I love to entertain, explore, cook, and get creative, and our home is where we do that together. I have compiled a list of 10 home essentials that I feel are great things to have on hand to help you stay organized and ready for whatever adventure awaits you.

Candles: It has only been within the last couple months that I have started to splurge on having candles that I love in our home. These are some of my new favorites, especially the "Otto" candle :)

Pretty blank cards: I have found that if you have little cards on hand you are more likely to write them to encourage someone special. And it is great to have them when you need to attach a card to a gift, rather than spending $5 dollars on an event specific card.

Cookies and ice cream: P and I are guilty of always having take-and-bake cookies and Haagen Dazs ice cream in our freezer.  You never know when someone is going to stop by or when you are going to want a mid-week splurge.

Fresh flowers: I know this is an extra expense, but especially during these cold, dark winter months, having flowers in the center of our table brightens our meals and our spirits.

Baker's twine & washi tape: I have both in a plethora of colors from Papersource. I use them for everything from wrapping gifts, to adding a little extra something special to a handwritten card, or for last minute craft ideas.

Craft station: My husband is the creative and handy one in our relationship, but I have created a craft station in our basement that I am so thankful for. In the past I would always misplace my craft items and then when I really needed it I had no idea where it was. Now I have a set of drawers I bought at target where I house rulers, scissors, stamps, hot glue gun, pretty papers, ribbons, glitter, etc. Now they are always right where I need them, and I know where to place them when it is time to put them away.

Coffee, tea, wine, beer, Pellegrino, POM, simple cocktail items...: Having these items on hand and re-stocked is so important so when you are opening your home to friends and family you know your basics are covered. A new favorite of mine is Pellegrino and POM juice :)

Plants: While I do not have a green thumb, P definitely does and he has taught me a thing or two. I love the fresh greenery in our home and I encourage you to try growing some in yours - jade plants are a great choice to get started with. We have quite a few green living things in our home, considering its small size - a lemon plant, two fiddle leaf fig trees, air plants, succulents, and a large jade plant :)

Coffee Table Books & Cookbooks: When I am feeling uninspired I will open up one of the many coffee table books or cookbooks that we have in our home. It freshens my perspective and helps me to get excited about pursuing a new endeavor.

Meaningful artwork & photos: This last one takes time to accumulate and collect. It is so tempting and much easier to run to your nearest home store and pick out something to hang on the wall to fill that empty space. But I encourage you to wait for something memorable that you love. That means you will have to be okay with a few blank walls, but believe me, adding artwork and photos over a lifetime is so much more enjoyable and exciting.

A

Be My Valentine

Valentine's Day... you either love it or you hate it. I fall right in the middle of those two extremes. I love wearing red and pink together on Feb 14th, I love getting a few presents from my mom and hubby, and I love the sweet treats associated with the day- hello chocolate! On the other hand, sometimes the hype is just too much; like spending a fortune on gifts and a nice dinner. I've pulled some of my favorite finds {that happen to match my Valentine's Day theme of red and pink} under $50! I love gifting {and getting} items like these because they aren't necessarily things you would purchase for yourself.

What are your thoughts on Valentine's Day?

Bundle Up

I'm not going to lie...it has been so hard to transition back to cold weather here in MN. We were blessed with some warm days so we got spoiled, but winter is back in full force. Needless to say, this post was supposed to be without the coat, but I just couldn't bear it, it was freezing :) Warm coats, wool sweaters, and oversized scarves are necessities, so investing in these key pieces is key (look for some good end of season sales that are everywhere). I always feel like my coat is the only thing on display in winter, so think before you purchase, and make sure you love it! Have a blessed day everyone.

Think Pink

Happy Monday!

I'm combining two of my favorite pieces from this fall - my swing dress (last seen here) and my cozy blanket scarf (last seen here). These items can be wore countless ways. I swear I've worn this swing dress a dozen times; between layering button downs underneath or various jackets the combinations are endless. In my efforts to shop more strategically, buying less but not sacrificing quality these versatile pieces are my saving grace. Before I buy something I have been challenging myself to think of at least three ways in which I could style the piece if nothing comes to mind I will leave the item behind. I challenge you to try that technique this month! I cannot wait to hear what you come up with.
