Day Dreaming {Home}

I thought I would share with you a few ideas I've been dreaming up for a future bedroom makeover. Although I have been sharing lots of fashion and sweet treats on A&L, I love decorating and dreaming up pretty living spaces. Apartment living can be hard when you are looking to invest in certain pieces- especially furniture but when it comes to your bedroom I think no matter what there are key pieces that can easily transition to any future living situations. I have been keeping my focus on home decorations, lamps, picture frames, trays, and candles have been my go to investment pieces. The smaller price points on these items make it a little easier to pull the trigger and really make your space feel like a home. I will keep you posted on any changes I make to our bedroom. Have a great Wednesday, I hope the rest of your week flies by.

Stripes

 The rain has come to Minnesota and it seems as if it will be staying for awhile. It is always harder to dress for rainy weather, knowing that your hair is going to go flat and only some of your wardrobe will work, especially in the shoe category. My hunter boots have become my go-to during those rainy or wet days. I love a good spring rain though because it is still possible to wear something springy and fun, even with the gloomier skies. This striped dress paired with my rain boots and a classic trench has become a favorite look of mine. The beauty of a fashionable rain boot or a good stripe is their versatility and ability to act as a basic.

Hot Coral

 Happy Monday my friends! B and I made it to our first Mariner's game of the season on Saturday, sadly they lost but it was a great evening at the ball park.

I love paring neutrals together for spring, no matter the combination it always feels clean and polished. The best part about wearing all neutrals is the bright colored lipstick you can pair with your ensemble. My favorite right now is Revlon's hot coral, its the perfect amount of orange with a hit of pink- perfect for spicing up any look.

Favorite Things Friday

Gallery walls are difficult to create, but when you have the finished product, the time and energy was well worth it. One treasure that P and I have discovered are the gallery frames from West Elm. They run anywhere between $12-$69 and they offer a wide variety of options from sleek and modern, to more rustic and simple. And all of their styles flow very naturally together so mixing and matching is easy. They even have boxed sets, which is great if you are looking for a quick solution to filling up a wall. We have done a great gallery wall of our wedding photos using their mirrored frames and the result really showcases our beautiful photos and looks great in our bedroom. Happy Friday everyone!

Better Than Take-Out Fried Rice {Food}

For the past couple of months, my husband and I have been intentionally eating less gluten, usually none, in our day to day diets. We have concluded that I do indeed have a sensitivity to gluten...unfortunately. That doesn't mean we still can't enjoy a savory croissant or a fresh, crackly baguette every once in awhile (can you tell we enjoy breads), but we are being much more intentional about not having it very often. It was difficult to make this change at first, but we have come up with some delicious and easy substitutes that cause us not to miss gluten nearly as much as we thought we would.

This homemade fried rice can be used with ingredients you naturally keep around the house and is a quick addition to any dinner meal. The left-overs for lunch the next day are quite delicious as well. Made in a small batch or a larger one, this has become a weekly addition to our dinner menu.

: : Ingredients : :

3 cups of white rice prepared ahead of time (we prefer organic), 1/2 cup frozen peas, 1/2 cup carrots (frozen or fresh, whatever you have on hand), 1 white onion, 2 cloves garlic, 2 eggs, olive oil, butter, and soy sauce.

: : Recipe : :

Prepare your rice according to package instructions to produce 3 cups of cooked rice.

Heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil and 1 tablespoon of butter in a large skillet on medium heat. Add one finely chopped onion and two minced garlic cloves. Cook for about 5 minutes, or until the onion has become a bit transparent.

Add your 1/2 cup of peas and 1/2 cup of carrots. If you choose to use fresh carrots, make sure they are chopped finely. Otherwise, you can always just have frozen carrots and peas on hand, which makes this recipe even easier.

Stir fry all ingredients together until tender.

Crack two eggs into the pan and scramble, mixing thoroughly throughout the vegetables.

Add rice and soy sauce to the mixture. I add about 1/4 cup of soy sauce, give or take. Usually I just eye ball the amount and do the soy sauce to taste. Be careful not to make it too salty.

Remove the skillet from the heat and add in a little more butter, about 1/2 tablespoon or so, and stir into the fried rice. Serve alongside your favorite meat or fish, or add in leftovers from the evening before.

Vanilla Bean Crème Brûlée {Food}

It has become a tradition that after shopping downtown B and I make our way to the Nordstrom Cafe for lunch. After a delicious meal we always indulge in their spectacular Crème Brûlée. Although this recipe has simple ingredients the vanilla bean flavor cannot be beat. I found this recipe online while on searching for the exact recipe Nordstom uses at their cafe. I have to say, even if it's not the exact recipe it come very close! I also appreciate the helpful baking FYI's included in the recipe itself.

{Baking Note: Make your Crème Brûlée the night before, cover and refrigerate for up to a week- just touch before serving}

Spring Has Sprung

Spring has finally sprung here in Minnesota. I love when the seasons transition because a whole new wardrobe is suddenly available to wear and I find inspiration all around me. This tank is a new favorite of mine from Anthropologie. I love how loose fitting it is and find that it looks equally great with both a blazer and jeans, and tucked in to my simple gray maxi skirt. And the surprise detailing in the back makes it that much greater! I know this will be a go-to top for me now and into the summer. Happy spring everyone!
